Daniel Romano
Daniel Romano
DANIEL ROMANO is an Ontario-based artist, poet, musician and performer of international acclaim. A genre-defying student of musical experimentation and a brilliant multi-instrumentalist, Romano is acutely well versed in the languages of melody, shape, lyric construction and song arrangement.

Apt in its title, MODERN PRESSURE will surely prove to be his most explorative endeavour to date. The twelve tracks pick up where 2016's critically celebrated MOSEY left off, boldly asking, "What age is this? What blooming weight do we carry through these stolen streets?" Written in observational scrutiny beneath the overcast atmosphere of 2016, the record vigorously tackles the present-day heaviness we contain in the jotting bones of our guilty expressions. It pleads for the restoration of empathy and resonance, to fill the empty chamber once again.

The recording phase for MODERN PRESSURE took place in a minimalistic cabin in secluded Finnsäs, Sweden over the month of August 2016 (with additional string and horn players being added at Baldwin Street Sound in Toronto, ON in October, 2016). Engineered by long-time collaborator Kenneth Meehan, the fevered pace of work lent itself to the unrestrained and undeviated nature of the songs themselves.

VILLAGES is what happens when a lifelong piano player has a midlife musical crisis, teaches himself guitar, writes 70+ songs in a little over a year, and then gets his super talented friends to make them sound cool.

"It's kind of an experiment that has gotten out of hand," says Justin Paciocco. "At first, I was looking for a new hobby and wondered if I could teach myself guitar. I figured it'd be something I'd play around with for a few weeks and then lose interest and move on to something else. Fast forward a year, and it's crazy to think I'm now fronting a new band, playing live shows, recording an album. This whole thing has been unexpected, but it's been a blast too."

The band -- known as VILLAGES -- includes a revolving collaboration of some of RVA's most plugged-in musicians: Stephen Lecky (Farm Vegas), Zach Hudgins (Jackass Flats), Corey Wells (Shack Band), James Lloyd Hodges (Avers), and Stephen Kuester (Jackass Flats). Their folky, countrified debut EP was recorded with the help of Zach Fichter and Jeremy Simmons, and is slated to be released later this summer.

I recorded and produced my debut record "Azalea Days" in my basement on a Tascam 388. It was mixed with the help of Adrian Olsen at Montrose and mastered by Allen Bergendahl. It will be out on Pete Curry and my record label Crystal Pistol. See you soon!
